LUXURY SHAVING
Boar Bristle Shaving Brushes

Individually hand made by Rodney Neep

.

To get the best results from a boar bristle brush, soak the bristles in a cup of warm water for about a minute or more before loading with shaving soap. Boar bristles are absorbent, and water soaks into the bristles.

Boar bristle shaving brushes need to be broken in to get the best out of them. After a few days of use, the bristles develop "split ends". The tip of each hair divides into three and become softer. That's good!  The knots that I use have natural unclipped tips to the bristles. Cheaper boar bristle knots have the tips clipped to shape, and those will never give you the advantage of the split ends, and will always remain uncomfortably scratchy to use on your face.

Each shaving brush  has an individual serial number, and comes with a certificate signed by Rodney Neep.

The greatest benefit from shaving brush use is the tendency to soften and lift facial hair before a shave. Applying shaving cream by hand mats hair or raises it unevenly. Aerosol foams don't soften and lift facial hair as much as real shaving soap foam applied with a brush, instead the aerosol foam is relatively dry with lots of large air bubbles. Real shaving soap produces a creamy lather.

Shaving brush use requires agitation of the soap or cream (usually in a cup or the wooden shaving soap holder) to form a lather suitable for a shave. Apply the lather to the face in a gentle circular motion, and leave for about a minute before shaving for the best results. With a good foamy cream produced by a brush a razor does not need to be pressed to the skin in order to provide a close shave.

#916 - Mega Boar - London Plane Lacewood

Boar Bristle knot BO1
27mm at the base of the knot and 64mm loft - white bristles

The "Mega Boar" brush is made with a large "chubby" style handle. It is a huge brush! A good grip between finger and thumb on the upper parts, and your second finger wraps around the lower part for a secure hold.

This one is in the wonderful London Plane Lacewood, with my new G2 type finish. The finish is an acrylic applied in may coats. The first coat literally soaks into the pores of the wood, and then the other coats are each bonded to the previous one. Finally the acrylic is sanded and polished to a very high glaze gloss. The result is a totally waterproof handle. (Even the inside of the hole for the brush knot is sealed with acrylic).

Handle height: 50mm
Handle diameter: 42.5mm

SOLD

#917 - Mini Boar - Blue Surf Resin

Boar Bristle knot BO4
22mm at the base of the knot and 50mm loft - white bristles

A small "chubby" handled brush (Same size handle as a Rooney small style 1).

Wonderful swirly patterns of blue against a white background. (The other side of the brush is all white, with the blue swirls at the base section).

Handle height: 40mm
Handle diameter: 30mm

#918 - Mega Boar - Ivory Substitute

Boar Bristle knot BO1
27mm at the base of the knot and 64mm loft - white bristles

The "Mega Boar" brush is made with a large "chubby" style handle. It is a huge brush! A good grip between finger and thumb on the upper parts, and your second finger wraps around the lower part for a secure hold.

This one has an experimental feature.... which worked!

The lower concave part of the handle has concentric spiral grooves cut into it. Not only for practical purposes with extra grip, but also because it just looks so good! It certainly has a lot of "phwoar!" factor.

Handle height: 51mm
Handle diameter: 46mm

SOLD

Two sides of the same brush illustrated.

#919 - Mega Boar - Stag Antler & Ivory Substitute

Boar Bristle knot BO1
27mm at the base of the knot and 64mm loft - white bristles

The lower half of the handle is made with an ivory substitute (look closely and you can see the grain like real ivory). The upper half is made from red deer stag antler from Exmoor in Devon. In order to make the handle round, part of the natural antler surface has been turned away on the lathe to reveal the ivory white layer beneath. Quite a lot of extra work went into making this one!

The "Mega Boar" brush is made with a large "chubby" style handle. It is a huge brush! A good grip between finger and thumb on the upper part made of stag antler, and your second finger wraps around the ivoroid lower part for a secure hold.

Handle height: 50mm
Handle diameter: 45mm

What happens if I don't like the brush?

Buying sight-unseen on line from a photo on a web page is not always easy. I appreciate that. I am sure that you will like my brushes once you handle them, but if for any reason you are not satisfied, then assuming that you have not used the brush then first email me at brushmaker@pensoftheforest.co.uk  and I will make a full no-hassle refund, (You pay the postage both ways). Brushes returned must be returned in the same postal tube packaging.
