Hand Made Luxury Shaving accessories by Rodney Neep
Measurements are approximate and may vary slightly from those stated. Each brush handle is individually turned on the lathe with hand tools, so they will all be slightly different. They all have the same classical urn shape and the same features though.
So why the Dreadnought?
The Dreadnought was a type of British battleship. The first was HMS Dreadnought which was introduced into service with the Royal Navy in 1906, and which revolutionised sea warfare.
In fact, after 1906 all large battleships became known as Dreadnoughts, and some were also built for the US Navy.
These brushes hold a lot of water! One loading of hard shaving soap can provide enough lather for three latherings (three pass shaving), and still some left over at the end!
This picture shows the amount of lather left after three latherings with my prototype Dreadnought.
Deluxe brush and razor stand
(Optional extra) with a column in the same material as your brush handle.
The groove in the handle of the Dreadnought Brush is designed to hang in this stand, or any other similar tall type brush stand.
Stand from £50.00 depending on materials
This one is the prototype of the Dreadnought shaving brush. I use it myself.
This brush holds a huge amount of water! 88 grams when dry and 122 grams when wet. That's 34 grams of water, or 34 cubic centimetres! (That's 2 cubic inches of water!)
As each brush handle is individually made on the lathe with only hand tools, dimensions may vary slightly.
Dreadnought (26-28mm knot) :

If you do not see a Dreadnought brush here that you you like, or if it is already sold, then I would be very happy to make one for you in any of the high quality resins. (Most of my work is now done to special order, and I have little time to make brushes for stock).

"Greetings Rodney, I recently purchased a Dreadnought Extra SilverTip. It's been used several times and is starting to bloom. Here is my review: if funds allowed, I would purchase another brush right now! This is the brush I want to use for the rest of my life. I've never used anything but Silvertip brushes, but You are on to something with the Extra Silvertip..they really are astounding. The Dreadnought holds a HUGE amount of water, thereby building a great lather. I'm a slantbar fan, and like to shave extremly close. All my shaves with the Dreadnought have left my skin soft, supple and completly free of irritation and redness. Thanks for a great brush...I will purchase more!" - Wayne J
These "Extra Dense Silvertip" badger hair knots are specially made for me to my own specifications.
If you would like a Dreadnought the same as one which has been sold, then email me at email@example.com and I can make one for you (subject to the availability of the 26mm badger knots).
|#2325 - Dreadnought - Biotite Schist Stone
Schist is a metamorphic rock and can take many forms. This piece is mainly biotite (black mica) with white quartzite veins.
The end result when turned into a brush handle on the lathe is stunning.
I set the extra dense silvertip badger knot at a tall 54mm because that's how it will work best! Trust me. It will work superbly for both bowl and face lathering.
#2323 - Dreadnought - Banded Malachite Stone
This is the shaving brush that I have always wanted to make, (and this is the 864th brush that I have made) but until now I have never been able to obtain this gorgeous banded malachite stone in a size suitable for a large brush.
Malachite is an ore of copper.
I set the extra dense silvertip badger knot at a tall 55mm because that's how it will work best! Trust me. It will work superbly for both bowl and face lathering.
Price is quite a bit higher than the normal Dreadnought brushes due to the rareness and cost of the stone, plus the fact that it is so much more difficult to work with. But it is worth the extra for such a phenominal shaving brush!

#1522 Dreadnought Shaving Brush - Claret Pearl & Clear Resin
As if the Dreadnought wasn't a really great shaving brush, I have made one that is even more special. It has one of the more expensive resins, a pearlised claret for the upper section and the base, with a 1" clear section between them.
It is an absolute beauty!
This brush will handle either face lathering or bowl lathering with ease.
(That sold fast... I need to make some more Dreadnought brushes. Send me an email if you would like to have one).
These days most of the brushes that I make are to special order, and I often have quite a waiting list. If you would like one the same as one which has been sold, then email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can make one for you (subject to the availability of the 26mm badger knots).
As a special one for myself, I inset a farthing coin (my birth year) into the base of the handle.

Buying sight-unseen on line from a photo on a web page is not always easy. I appreciate that. I am sure that you will like my brushes once you handle them, but if for any reason you are not satisfied, then assuming that you have not used the brush then first email me at email@example.com and I will make a full no-hassle refund, (You pay the postage both ways). Brushes returned must be returned in the same packaging, and if sent from outside Europe the packet MUST be marked on the customs slip "Return to maker for full refund", otherwise UK customs will charge me 20% VAT and import duty plus a collection fee!
#1442 - Ivory Resin with Stand - sold
Note that wood handled brushes do not have the extra 1/8" beading near the top of the handle.
